Two weeks in the life

My book is due in a few weeks. My editor, who reads this Substack, is probably wondering why I am writing this instead of my novel. (T, I AM DOING BOTH!) But I swear I am keeping it short and sweet. A little diary of what I have been wearing, reading, and watching since these seem to be the most popular conversation starters here!

LAST WEEK

I skipped last week’s post because I was on vacation with family and decided to take a real one where I barely wrote and checked emails. I spent a week in the Canadian rockies with my husband’s family—waking up at 10 am every morning, drinking lots of coffee, reading by a stream, taking hikes in the sun, playing Mölkky with a glass of wine in hand, eating dinners under the big Canada sky, and occasionally dipping into the hot tub. It was a lovely reset. (And so nice to eat salads without a care in the world.) That said, I did get two chapters written.

what i wore

• Patagonia baggies - best shorts, beats all fairweather sporty short trends that come and go

• bucket raffia hat - made all the difference on sunny hikes

• striped vintage shirt - oversized, comfy, and playful

• red bathing suit - the most expensive bathing suit i have purchased and i regret nothing. covers my butt, is cute, and feels like butter.

• grey sweatpants - necessary and classic, these have been in my closet for years

• hiking joggers - i kinda felt cute in these

• comfy black shorts - second fave shorts of the summer

• vintage tank - mine is blue and i cut the bottom on these to avoid the aughts stretchy long tank look

• Salomon’s - through thick and thin they rule

• Tevas - a must for river and creek crossings

• Birks, clog edition - a must for rental house ease

• chunky sweatshirt - so good that my picky husband wanted to wear it but too small

what i read

• The Shippers by Katherine Center (hiiiiilarious, cute)

• Come and Get It by Kiley Reid (engrossing, stressful)

• The Sidekick by Laura Hankin (an early read for blurbing—LOVED it!)

what i watched

• How to Train Your Dragon (for the littles. a perfect movie.)

• Dungeons and Dragons (for the teen. funny and dumb.)

THIS WEEK

I am in the throes of the deadline, looking at my word count with a sweat bead rolling down my face because it’s not moving fast enough. My son is staying with grandparents in Idaho all week, so this is the perfect time to just crank it out. I am also doing epic loads of laundry, catching up on movies, and working out as much as I can. Also, got a mani pedi in a color that was just calling out to me.

what i am wearing (it is HOT)

• Doen plaid dress - light as air and cute af, as seen in this post

• Gwyn t-shirt dress - obsessed, it’s so incredibly gorgeous and drapey on, also seen in this post

• Cheapo jelly flip-flops - probably the last time I purchased anything fashion from Amazon and I hate to tell you they are really good and they’ve had so much wear since last year

• J.Crew white poplin cargo pants - If they were 2 inches longer they would be perfect but I wear them slouchy and they feel more summery that way

• Jamie Haller black column skirt - a black jersey skirt like this was my white whale for eons, and now I’ve found the perfect one. has a slit in the back for ease and a hint of, dare i say, sexiness.

• Tartan sandals with bows - the kind of purchase you can only make in person, when you get that gut-punch of want. Purchased at Earl IRL where I believe they are sold out

• Madesome shorts - so comfy and light and packs a visual punch

• Best white tank - thick and structure-giving

what i am reading

• Crash by Ruby McNally (My fave Katie Cotugno wrote a series under this pen name and already so obsessed with how Boston and angsty it is)

• Rabbit Rabbit by Jennifer E. Smith (also a blurb read!! One of my fave humans and authors)

what i am watching

• Spider-Man: Brand New Day - Just take all my money, Spidey. I will love you forever. (A good time to remind you that I wrote some Silk comics, and she makes a cameo in the movie??)

• Furious (TV, Hulu) - haven’t started but VERY excited to. woman detective hunting down woman serial killer should be its own genre.
